Ardent Sports’ founder and managing director Nick Smith was appointed Head of Infrastructure for Birmingham City FC in 2023, as part of the new owner’s plans to transform the English Football League club.

Combining high-level strategy with on-the-ground execution, Nick and the Ardent Sports team led a large-scale infrastructure development programme during summer 2024, comprising 47 projects and £35m investment into the club’s ground, St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

The infrastructure redevelopment programme at St Andrew’s included:

Re-building the hospitality suite, including the building of six new restaurants in just 11 weeks

Re-designing the club shop and introducing a new onsite Fan Zone and Fan Park

Pitch renovations

Investing in new Wi-Fi, CCTV and security, and emergency telephone systems

Upgrades to concession outlets

Installing new turnstiles including a new access control system
