Brentford FC - Robert Rowan Performance Centre & Academy
Delivering a Premier League-ready, purpose-built performance environment to accelerate player development
With promotion to the Premier League in May 2021, Brentford FC had to accelerate its training ground plans to enhance its playing, training and medical facilities for the first team squad and youth academy. The promotion also necessitated an Academy to meet UEFA regulations, which further expanded the scope of the training facility.
Chosen because of the team’s portfolio of past projects and proven methodologies, Ardent Sports was brought onboard during the 2021-22 season, and the first phase of the new training ground - The Robert Rowan Performance Centre - opened in November 2022.
This was followed by the development of the club's new Academy building, designed and purpose-built for school-age academy squad members. This facility required different considerations to the performance centre, with security, safeguarding, and public-facing facilities for parents all modifications needed to meet the unique requirements of young athletes and their families.
Ardent Sports’ role was the client advisor and project manager in full service, from project conception, vision, benchmarking, and functional design development, to client advisor for the construction, handover and operation ready. Working closely with the football and coaching staff to fine tune the facility’s requirements, the Ardent Sports team also managed the procurement of all performance equipment.
The result was a modern, aspirational, training and coaching environment, purposefully designed and built to meet the requirements of all of its stakeholders. In April 2024, Brentford FC was awarded Category 2 Academy status.
